Who is your favourite character? This is a difficult one. One of the things that makes DG such a great programme is the fact that it is very much an ensemble cast rather than focused on one or two main characters. One of my favourite characters is Tyler. I have loved seeing the growth and development of the character over 8 series. It's been great to see the different aspects of the character from the cheeky and mischievous young boy to the sensitive and emotional person within and the natural leader he has become. Miles is very talented and is always really believable in his portrayal of Tyler. I don't always feel he gets the opportunity to be pushed to his full potential but a couple of the recent episodes (No Escaping and Run the Risk) have really showcased his talent. Some of my other favourites include Jody, Sasha and Charlie Who is your favourite ship? Another really hard question to answer. I will always be a Jyler fan but recently I have become a big fan of Charlex as well. Jyler is great because we have had the opportunity to watch Tyler and Jody grow up and their relationship grow and develop as they do. Also the fact that they have such a genuine love for each other and support each other through all the ups and downs life throws at the them is really heartwarming and a realistic portrayal of what true love is all about. That said there have been a few moments when Jyler has, in my opinion, overstepped into cheesiness and the awkwardness between them is starting to wear on my patience. They are meant to be 15 now, so time for them to figure things out. I know the whole point of Jyler is that it's two young teenagers trying to figure things out and dealing with the awkwardness of growing up and feelings developing but it would be nice to see a little less awkwardness and for Jody to actually seem happy. Even in No Escaping Jody didn't seem particularly happy or relaxed at the end and it really seemed like Tyler was the only one whose behaviour changed. Of course things are far from ideal due to it being against the rules for two residents to be in a relationship but come on Jody surely being with Tyler is something to smile about even if it can't be official. I'm curious to see how things pan out in 7B and 8. As for Charlex, I feel it has been a breath of fresh air to have a very different friendship/relationship between these two. I feel that as Emily and Connor are quite a bit older than Miles and Kia were when Jyler first began to develop in series 4 and 5, they can bring a different emotional depth to their characters and the Charlex friendship/relationship. Charlie and Alex have a lot in common in terms of their backgrounds in that both were abandoned by their mothers aged 4/5 and both then found happiness/stability with others who are no longer around (George and Kaz for Alex and Henry for Charlie). They have then both reconnected with their Mothers but with different outcomes. They have really supported each other through the tough times and they clearly care about each other very deeply. Im stuck in a state of suspense and excitement waiting to see what happens with these two in 7B. It seems pretty certain that Charlie leaves at the end of 7B but less clear whether Alex leaves. I really hope the characters leave together, fingers crossed! What would you like to see happen in future DG series? I would love a happy ending for Charlex; a happy Jody would be nice too; some answers re Floss and Ross; some backstory for Sid, some more info about Candi-rose's backstory and some more Tyler focused episodes that allow Miles to shine. Who is your favourite actor? Probably the hardest question because let's face it I don't know any of the actors, neither do I have much knowledge of acting or Drama. It's easy enough to start listing favourites but then I'm mainly listing based on their characters rather than the actors themselves. Overall, I would say my favourite actor is Emily Burnett, purely because I feel she has brought something very unique to the DG. Her peformances are so powerful and emotional and she really made the musical episode a success with her stunning vocals. That said all the actors are amazing, talented individuals and all bring their own unique qualities, skills and talents to the show. As I have mentioned before the fact that it is such an ensemble cast that is so diverse and inclusive is what makes the DG the show it is. The dedication and hardwork of all the actors in DG is mind blowing and it's so easy to forget that behind the scenes it's not just fun and games it's early morning starts, long work days, weeks spent living away from home and for many juggling that with school work or uni or other work commitments. Not to mention all the camera crew, runners, writers, directors, producers, editors, chaperones etc who all play vital roles in the creation of this amazing show. Why did you become a fan of The Dumping Ground and set up your Twitter page and blog? As with many fans I started off watching The Story of Tracy Beaker. Then when Tracy Beaker returns started I watched it out of curiosity and I enjoyed it so I continued watching it and later The Dumping Ground. Personally the reason I love The Dumping Ground so much is because it focuses on the difficulties that all children and young people go through from bullying and puberty to bereavement and family break ups. It so important that any child or teen going through a difficult time knows that they are not alone, that it's ok to feel sad or upset or angry and that they will get through it. It also cleverly balances these emotional storylines with more light hearted, fun storylines as well which is really important too.
My younger brother died when I was 8 years old. If the Dumping Ground had been on TV back then I think it would have made a real difference to me. I'm glad that todays 8 year olds have such a great show to watch and won't feel alone when they are going through tough times. I set up my Twitter page, and more recently my blog, to celebrate this amazing show and the amazing cast and crew that continue to put so much hard work into creating it.
